The Car Hop is a chance for church members to step back into the 1950’s and indulge in a little nostalgia. With the help of our youth, we turn the parking lot into a drive-in where we take food orders, and deliver burgers, chips, drinks, and desserts right to your car. There are lots of pony-tails, white t-shirts, and poodle skirts as everyone enjoys good food and fellowship.
Pajama Pizza Movie Night is open to the community and welcomes people of all ages. Young and old bring folding chairs, lawn chairs, and sleeping bags to enjoy some pizza, drinks, popcorn and a free movie. We show the movie on our large projector system in Mission Hall. Pizza is sold by the slice to cover the cost of the food. Come and join us for some very casual movie entertainment.
At the end of summer, we gather together as a congregation to enjoy one last BBQ. After the 10:00 service on the last Sunday of the summer, we fire up the grills and serve a $5 meal deal to people on the patio. It is a chance to connect with friends and one another before the beginning of another busy school year. The funds raised are donated to the Illumination Foundation, an agency that serves homeless families throughout Orange County.
The annual church picnic has become a much-loved tradition at Mission Lutheran Church. It is a church-wide potluck held at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. There are games for the kids and for the adults! Of course, there is always an enormous amount of good Lutheran food. You might even see a marshmallow salad! This year the church picnic will be on October 9, so save the date and bring some food! It is a time full of fun and fellowship!
Advent Craft Night and Potluck
What would any good church gathering be without some kind of food?? On the first Sunday evening of Advent, we start off with a potluck where everyone shares delicious food, holiday treats, and fellowship. Then we provide supplies (and a little help if needed) to children and adults so they can make three different holiday crafts or decorations, including the popular (and messy) gingerbread houses. In the past, we have also made lighted Christmas trees, wreaths, and Christmas ornaments. It is a wonderful way to start the Advent season with friendship, laughter, lots of holiday music, and love for one another.
Family Game Night
Family Game Night is open to members of all ages, and you don’t even have to bring a family! Along with lots of food, there are games for everyone. We play bingo and bunco, and there are prizes donated from members of our local community. We even have a “professional” bingo caller! So come to Mission Hall and join us for lots of laughter, excitement, and maybe some Farkle!
Drive In Movie
How long has it been since you went to a real drive in movie? Come and join us in the church parking lot as we use a large inflatable screen and portable sound system to show a fun, family movie! You can sit in your car, or you can bring lawn chairs to enjoy the outdoor movie. We will have concessions for sale. In the past we have shown classics like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”, “101 Dalmations”, and “The Tooth Fairy”. It’s a great way to spend a cool evening!
Alpha Marriage Course
A new Alpha course on marriage is currently scheduled for Tuesday evenings in January 2015. The course is designed to bring couples together for dessert, and to watch a video on issues that arise in a marriage. Couples will have private discussions of how these topics relate to their marriage. The goal of the course is to strengthen and improve marriages by building on communication skills. The course is appropriate for all couples regardless of what they believe, how old they are, or whether their relationship is strong or struggling. Childcare will be provided. Cost for course materials is $50 per couple. View additional course materials online here. For more information, contact the church office.
